Long, Slow Climb from The Pitt (Fallout 3)

Fallout 3 - Welcome to The Pitt

Today has been a good day so far in Fallout 3, at least as good as a day can be in a post-apocalyptic world where hostile and mutated creatures and raiders roam the desolate wastelands. I’ve been working my way through The Pitt add-on, taking extra breaks along the way due to the extra bleakness and creepiness of the locale. I completed it today and have to admit that as scary as it was, I liked it. It actually reminded me of a dream I had a few months ago where I was being taken to a prison for a crime I didn’t commit. The prison area was deep underground and very dark. The prisoners there were very grimy and those who had been there longer-term had lots of skin abrasions all over their faces from the skin just going away. Outside of appearance, the prisoners seemed very nice and helpful.  I suppose I should have been terrified and considered the dream to be a nightmare, but I was far too fascinated by it all, and the whole feeling of gloominess and resignation, and was kind of annoyed when I woke up. The Pitt had much similarity, but was entirely coincidence as I knew nothing about it at the time of my dream.

Fallout 3 - Point Lookout Landing After completing The Pitt, I decided to take a trip back to Point Lookout and finish up the quests there. When I started them, I had no idea how much more difficult the mobs are in that location, so was getting really damaged and running out of supplies. The very moment I was able to get back to the mainland, I did and went back to my Megaton house and went about doing other things for a while. So today I went back and tied up some loose ends. I’ve since left Point Lookout again, but I will need to go back to discover all the remaining locations and see what is there. I found a hint to a possible side quest or side activity too that I will need to investigate. Plus, I now have an extremely helpful item that I received elsewhere (that I didn’t have the first time I visited) that will make exploring much less dangerous and damaging.

Now I have to make the decision to go investigate an alien signal (one of the other add-on options) or continue with the next step of the main quest. Because I have been sidetracked by many things, and I tend to try to explore everything, I really haven’t gotten very far with the main quest. I guess that’s a good thing anyway since unlike The Elder Scrolls games, Fallout 3 actually ends at the end rather than allowing us to keep playing after the main quest is done.
